How is it played?
Put your finger anywhere on the screen and steer your knight with the floating joystick — he shoots on his own at any enemy in range. To build or upgrade, ride onto a building's circle and hold still: coins (and later wood, stone and food) flow in until it is paid. When you are ready, sound the horn to call the next raid, and keep the goblins away from your castle.
Is there a pause button?
No need for one: the game pauses whenever a menu is open or you leave the app, and waits for you during conversations and reward windows.
What happens if the castle falls?
You can fight on with the castle half rebuilt by watching a short video, or rebuild: the raiders carry off part of your coins and the same raid can be fought again. Your buildings keep their levels, and anything knocked down can be rebuilt.
How do I repair towers and walls?
After a raid, a damaged building gets a red circle with a hammer. Ride onto it: every coin you pay mends it at once. A building that fell leaves ruins, and rebuilding them costs less than building anew, at the same level. The castle itself heals after every victory.
Where do crystals come from, and what are they for?
Crystals come from story and side tasks in the journal, from repelled raids, from some of the kingdom's happenings and from a few videos in the shop each day. Spend them on hero talents and on permanent shop upgrades — a war dog, a goose, a goat, faster builders and more. If you like, packs of crystals can also be bought in the shop.
What can I buy?
Everything is optional, and the whole game can be played without buying anything. The shop sells packs of crystals; the Defender's chest — crystals, a war dog and supplies, offered once after you beat the first warlord and kept in the shop for a few days; the Royal Charter, which gives every video's reward without the video; and the crystal mine, which doubles the crystals from tasks and raids for good.
How do I restore my purchases?
The Royal Charter and the crystal mine are bought once and belong to your Apple Account: tap Restore purchases in the shop or in Settings on any device signed in to it. Crystals and the chest's contents are part of your saved game and travel with its iCloud copy. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Do I have to watch ads?
Never. Videos are only offered — to fight on after a defeat, to take a raid's spoils several times over, for crystals in the shop, or to mend everything after a raid. There are no banners and no ads that play by themselves. With the Royal Charter, every one of those rewards comes without the video.
Why don't I see a video button?
A video button only appears when a video is ready to play, which needs an internet connection. The shop's crystal videos also have a daily limit; they come back the next day. Everything else in the game, apart from buying in the shop, works offline.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, automatically. If you are signed in to iCloud, a copy is kept in your iCloud account too, so deleting and reinstalling the game brings your kingdom back.
Can I play on another device?
Yes. Sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on, and your kingdom, crystals, talents and shop upgrades follow you; give it a moment to arrive on a new device. If two devices were played apart, the one played longer wins. Settings stay on each device.
Can I play without internet?
Yes — the whole game, story included. Only the optional reward videos and buying or restoring purchases need a connection: offline, the shop hides what is for sale, and what you have already bought keeps working. Your iCloud copy catches up the next time you are online.
Can I change the language?
Yes. Hoofguard is available in English, German, French, Ukrainian, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese. By default it follows your phone's language (if supported); you can change it any time in Settings.
Can I turn off sound, music, vibration or damage numbers?
Each one has its own switch in Settings.
How do I change my ad privacy choices?
Tracking is up to you in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. In Europe, the UK and Switzerland, the game's Settings also have Privacy choices, where you can change the answers you gave Google's consent form. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
System requirements
iPhone with iOS 18 or later, or iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. An internet connection is needed only for reward videos, purchases and the iCloud copy of your save.
