Markdown Master Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 28, 2026

The short version

Markdown Master collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no third-party SDKs and no servers of ours. Your documents and your settings stay on your device and in storage you already control. The app goes online only to show an image that a document itself loads from a web address.

1. Your documents

Documents are ordinary Markdown text files that you open and save through the system's own file browser — Files on iPhone and iPad, Finder on Mac. The app reads and writes only the file you have open, and only where you told it to. It never uploads a document, never copies one elsewhere, and never scans your storage for other files. The same is true of exports: PDF and HTML files go only where you choose in the system's save or share dialog, printouts only to the printer you pick, and Copy as HTML and Copy Markdown only to your clipboard.

If you keep files in iCloud Drive, or in another provider you have connected in Files, syncing is done by that service, not by us, and is governed by its own privacy policy. The app itself performs no syncing.

2. Images next to a document

To show pictures stored beside a document, the app asks you to choose their folder (Show Images…). It then keeps a system permission for that folder on your device, so the next document from it shows its images too. The app uses that permission only to display images that a document refers to; it does not list, read or send anything else in the folder. Deleting the app removes the permission.

3. Images from the internet and links

When a document refers to an image by a web address (https://…), the preview loads that image from the server that hosts it, just as a web browser would. That server receives the ordinary details of any web request, such as your IP address, and its handling of them is governed by its owner's policy. The app sends nothing else: not the document, not its name, and nothing about you. The system's web engine may keep a cache of such images on your device. Documents without web images cause no network traffic at all.

Scripts inside a document never run. Links in a document, and the links to the Markdown specifications in the app's Help, open in your browser only when you follow them.

The Quick Look extension that previews Markdown files in Finder and Files has no network access at all. It reads only the file being previewed, on your device, and keeps nothing.

4. Your settings

Your choices in Settings — the interface language, the theme, the preview's typeface, text size and line width, editor preferences, the mode documents open in, and the paper size and theme for export — are saved on your device in standard app preferences. They are technical settings, contain nothing personal, and never leave the device.

5. No analytics or tracking

There is no analytics framework, no crash-reporting service, no advertising identifier and no third-party code of any kind in the app. We do not know who you are, whether you use the app, or what you read and write with it. If you choose to share crash reports or diagnostics with developers in your device's settings, Apple may pass them to us without anything that identifies you; that is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

6. Children's privacy

The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

7. Changes to this policy

If our practices ever change, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.
